Encouraging daughter succession in farm business

Katrina Sasse, farmer

The livestream event will challenge some of the traditional norms and unconscious biases around farm succession and who is encouraged to play a role in the continuity of the family farm business. The benefits and strategies of harnessing diversity in the farm business and succession tips specific to daughters will be explored.

Some topics to be covered in this livestream include;

  • The foundations of succession for daughters
  • The twelve characteristics of a sound daughter succession process
  • Mentoring daughters through succession
  • Structures and frameworks to support best outcomes

Katrina Sasse is a farmer and an “inspired farm daughter” from Morawa near Geraldton in WA. Katrina grew up in a faming family and went on to tertiary studies in Perth and a role with corporate agribusiness in Melbourne. In 2017 was awarded a Nuffield Australia scholarship with which she travelled globally to investigate strategies to encourage young women, particularly farmer’s daughters, to play an integral role in the continuity of the family farm business.

GRDC Farm Business Update North Livestreams are topic specific, interactive, interview style discussions that address key farm business management improvements common to grain growing businesses across Australia.
